The Merseyside club have agreed to pay a sum of roughly £20 million for the teenager, according to the report. The Burnley academy product, who was released by Manchester United as a youngster, is already nearing the end of his medical tests with the Premier League club and has agreed to a five-year contract with them.
Despite his youth, McNeill has already made over 100 Premier League games and was a standout attacking player for Burnley during their time in England’s top flight. Indeed, in 134 Premier League appearances for the Clarets, the 22-year-old produced 24 goal contributions (7 goals, 17 assists).
While McNeil used to train at the United academy with the likes of Brandon Williams and Mason Greenwood, they released him when he was just 14, and he has since come to realize that this was a blessing in disguise.
