Barcelona have been linked with a move for Lionel Messi, with head coach Xavi Hernandez apparently interested in signing him next season.
Recent reports suggest club president Joan Laporta is expected to do everything he can to bring the prodigal back to Barcelona and according to Diario SPORT, the wish to bring him back is not entirely on sentiments.
According to the report, Barcelona have various reasons to pursue Messi next summer, one of which is the financial incentive he brings to the table.
The Argentine international is unquestionably one of the greatest players to have ever graced the beautiful game. His stock at Barcelona remains high as a result of his great years at the club, which has resulted in strong financial incentives for both Barcelona and the player in the past.
Barça believe that re-signing Messi will help them recoup those economic incentives. The club also believe that the attacker will not be concerned about the financial component of the transfer because he will receive multiple bonuses as part of his contract.
Another reason for the chase of Messi is the team’s sheer strength this year, courtesy of a spectacular transfer window in which they brought in Robert Lewandowski, Raphinha, and Franck Kessie, among others.
The club is also aware that Messi enjoys rivalry inside the team, and with a stronger unit, he may restore the magical aura that we identify with the Catalans.
Although Messi, whose PSG expires in 2023, is expected to receive better economic offers next summer, Barça are confident the Argentine will go with his heart and return to Camp Nou.
