Tyrell Malacia officially joined Manchester United from Feyenoord on Monday, to become the first official signing of the Erik ten Hag era, and the Dutch defender could find himself joined by three more new faces this coming week.
Although Manchester United may have only just begun their summer of spending, the arrivals at Old Trafford may suddenly be happening quickly.
The first completed deal of the Erik ten Hag era, Tyrell Malacia, made his move from Feyenoord on Monday, and three more players may join the Dutch defense this coming week.
Christian Erikson is believed to have struck a gentlemen’s agreement with the chairman of his former club Tottenham years ago, which saw the playmaker pledge never to sign for the Red Devils. However, his circumstances appear to have changed as a move is now on the cards.
Eriksen, who notably restarted his football career after his nearly deadly incident at Euro 2020, had a successful second half of the previous season at Brentford, attracting Ten Hag’s interest. The 30-year-old is now believed to have verbally agreed to a deal with United after much thinking and is soon to have a physical.
Erikson might be joined by Frenkie de Jong and Lisandro Martinez, two additional players with ties to Ajax. United and Barcelona are said to have reached an agreement on a price for De Jong that exceeds £56 million, with the player’s personal terms being the next item up for discussion.
The cash-strapped Catalan club’s president, Joan Laporta, has since cast doubt on the agreement by adamantly stating that the 25-year-old will not be sold by the Spanish powerhouses and that he will do “everything” in his power to keep the player at the Nou Camp.
Laporta also claimed De Jong himself is still pushing to remain with the La Liga side. Despite such developments, United remain hopeful of concluding a deal for the Dutchman this week.
