Breaking: Green light for Manchester United in Frankie de Jong pursuit as Barcelona chairman drops latest transfer stance

Barcelona president Joan Laporta has claimed that “many clubs” are interested in striking a deal for Manchester United’s top summer transfer target Frenkie de Jong.

Frenkie de Jong’s potential transfer to Manchester United has taken a further hit as Barcelona president Joan Laporta said that “several clubs” are interested in the Dutch midfielder.

De Jong is Erik ten Hag‘s top summer transfer target because he wants to sign him so badly. Although negotiations have moved slowly, United believed they were this week getting closer to a deal for the 25-year-old.

Laporta once again emphasized that the Spanish giants have “no intention” of cashing in on the midfielder, who wants to stay at the Camp Nou, in his most recent remarks, which appear to imply that other clubs are interested in beating United to a deal for De Jong.

Laporta said: “There are many clubs that want him, not just Man United. We have no intention of selling him, he wants to stay.”

But the Barcelona chief did admit that De Jong would have to slash his huge wages to stay at the club. He added: “I’m going to do everything to keep Frenkie, but there’s also a salary issue and that would have to be adjusted.”
